If confined space rescue is your focus, then Roco’s 40-hour Confined Space Rescue Technician is your next step. This course builds upon the core skills already learned and provides the additional competencies needed to meet the job performance requirements listed in NFPA 1006 and 1670 (Confined Space Rescue Technician Level). Technician-level skills and team response capabilities will be enhanced by extensive hands-on learning stations and realistic problem-solving exercises including on-air, simulated IDLH scenarios.
Confined Space Rescue Technician prepares students for certification testing, which includes individual skills proficiency testing and scenario-based performance evaluations. It also includes a written exam. Roco’s certification is valid for two years and can be renewed by completing Roco’s Rescue Technician Recertification program. Certification testing to a national consensus standard, such as NFPA, is an excellent means of documenting individual rescue skills proficiency in accordance with OSHA 1910.146 Permit Required Confined Space regulation.
Compliance Note: OSHA 1910.146 Permit Required Confined Space regulation requires all rescue team members to practice making permit space rescues at least once every 12 months from actual or representative confined spaces. OSHA has approved Roco’s Types Chart, which classifies these representative spaces into six (6) confined space types for rescue planning and practice purposes. NFPA 1006 requires individual rescuers to demonstrate rescue competency on an annual basis, and NFPA 1670 states that rescue teams must undergo an annual performance evaluation.
