Structural Collapse Rescue Technician

Students asked for it, so we’ve added an extra day to include even more hands-on training and practical experience. Additional changes in FEMA/USAR guidelines have also required us to devote more time to this program.

Our 40-hour Structural Collapse program includes a no-nonsense approach for First Responders – those who have the most opportunity to save lives immediately following a collapse incident. This course will focus on practical techniques using equipment that is commonly found on emergency apparatus, or that is readily available.

Topics will include: collapsed structure incident plan development; light and heavy construction stabilization; heavy load lifting and moving; victim location determination; entrapped victim release and removal; concrete breaching; steel cutting; shoring & cribbing construction/implementation; new USAR nail patterns; low-slope shoring; and power tool use and care. This program meets NFPA 1006 requirements for Structural Collapse with the exception of lighting and crane operations.

Relevant Standards:
NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer (Chapter 9)
NFPA 1670 Technical Search & Rescue (Chapter 6)
